In September 2017, Lance Berlovich was diagnosed with tongue cancer and the only possible cure was completely removing his tongue. Using skin grafts from Lance's leg, surgeons were able to reconstruct a new tongue which will allow him to speak. Lance cannot feel his tongue and he cannot taste anything. Speaking was a major challenge, but through speech therapy, he is relearning to talk.
